A Long Weekend in Bath

My previous visits to bath have included a university interview, a couple of days setting up a shop and a very merry exhibition opening, so I have seen this city in various guises, at various times of the year and in varying states of sobriety (!) so I decided it was time I spent a bit of quality time and do it properly.

We had three lovely days in Bath and here are a selection of my favourite photos from our trip

Saturday

  • A bit of a wander
  • Bath Abbey
  • Dinner at The Huntsman

Sunday

  • The Roman Baths
  • Afternoon Tea at the Royal Crescent Hotel

Monday
  • The Holborn Museum
  • The Fashion Museum and Assembly Rooms
  • No. 1 The Crescent
  • Pizza and Cider at The Stables

Writing with thread - The first six pictures!

This weekend marked a little milestone of mine, as I finished my first six framed embroidered pictures. It's probably just in time too, as my friend and I have decided to do a craft fair in early April! It will be the first one we've done so it will be a good chance to test what we've made and see what the general public think. We spent some time on Saturday planning out how our stall is going to look and I'm looking forward to seeing it all come together!

I have decided to go down two different routes with the embroidered pictures, one set will be full embroidered word or phrases (likes the ones above) that fill the frames with little added embellishments, such as the wooden hearts, and the other will be smaller words with fabric or glittery frames (like the ones below) that will compliment the colour of the text.

I have six more designs planned, including one to show all of the places where people can follow what I get up to, including Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter and my blog, and hopefully will be able to use some of my new shimmery rainbow embroidery thread which I'm looking forward to using so I can see how it changes colour as I sew!

Knitting and Stitching Show 2016

This weekend I headed off to London with my mum to attend the Knitting and Stitching Show at Kensington Olympia. I went when I was at university and thoroughly enjoyed it, so I was looking forward to going again. It was two halls filled with a fantastic array of makers, craft supply sellers, fabric shops and artists, and a whole array of fantastic companies and craftspeople showing off their fantastic products.

There were also lots of exhibits, including The Knitted Feast competition, featuring a table laden with wooly food that still looked good enough to eat, the National fashion Textiles Competition where talented A-Level and GCSE students showcased their amazing surface decorated fashions, and an art gallery section where talented artists showed off their amazing creations.

The Knitted Feast Competition - A fantastic array of fuzzy food!

The National Fashion Textiles Competition - A brilliant show of talent in a whole range of different medians, from feathers to felt and paper origami.

Sew La Di Da Vintage patterns - I saw this jumpsuit made up on the stand, and I had to have the pattern. The fabric was sage green with gorgeous printed sailing boats, twisting ropes and red and white life buoys. I am on the hunt for the fabric as I speak!

A gorgeous selection of fat quarters and picot edged bias binding - Not necessarily to go together but I did love the patterns

Chaco chalk pen for marking out designs and embroidery needles.

Hand-dyed embroidery threads in a fab range of colours. I picked a petrol grey, pink and a rainbow skein and can't wait to see how they shine against a plain calico.

Selection of DMC threads, cotton and more embroidery needles, I certainly won't run out!

Here are a selection of the companies that I saw at the Knitting and Stitching show. They all had very inviting stands and lovely products that were so inspirational.
